About the program

The B.A. in Jewish Studies: History and Culture program delivers a broad curriculum that develops critical and informed thinking about the world’s humanitarian issues today and for the future. You will learn the principles, concepts, and theories behind modern social issues and democratic transformations.

The Bachelor of Arts in Jewish Studies: History and Culture program is the newest and most distinguished Jewish Studies program in Central Europe. This program includes an interdisciplinary course structure, developing strong competency in theory and research. It emphasizes the Jewish contribution and experience in Central Europe and the practice of humanities and social sciences.

With AAU’s international faculty of specialists, students learn practical as well as academic skills in research, communications, diplomacy, psychology, and social anthropology. This bachelor Jewish Studies program enhances cultural awareness and students experience a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary curriculum that advances knowledge, skill, and understanding in Jewish history and culture.

The School of Humanities provides the means for quality study with competent professors, small intimate classrooms, and all necessary materials like textbooks available for free. But what books yield in ideas, Prague bestows in experience, and studying at AAU confronts you not only with new thoughts but also new ways of life. You will interact with diverse students and faculty from far afield and reflect upon your own life and the culture that shaped it, learning of its failures and unconscious assumptions, while perhaps appreciating its strengths and insights. You’ll be book-wise and world-wise. You’ll be more mature and confident. You’ll certainly be all the richer for it and none the poorer.

Beyond the classroom, you can also join student clubs like Model UN and Film Club, discuss current political issues with professors and local experts at an event like ‘Professors in the Pub’ or stop by one of our movie nights or poetry readings in the Library featuring professors and internationally published authors.

AAU’s Career Center also connects students with numerous professional internships in the Czech Republic and abroad every year.

See what our students have to say

AAU has high-quality professors and a wide variety of classes to choose from. The courses that are offered at AAU are quite unique compared to the other universities in the Czech Republic and the student body is extremely diverse which has led me to meet people from all across the world.

AAU classes are small, usually up to 25 people, which I believe makes the interaction between international classmates more personal and diverse. It is a huge advantage as students to get an opportunity to speak up, to express our personal opinion as well as get a chance to practice our presentational skills.
